stop gap measure that with avoid faxes on people earning less than $25,000. on capitol hill frustration is growing. both republicans and democrats sound look they have given up. outside the capitol democrats hauled out a times square ball prop with the emergency, don't drop the ball. >> the republicans refuse to ask those with the most in our society to give a little bit more. >> reporter: a simple stop gap measure is not what many in washington had hoped for. republicans blame president obama for the collapse of a bigger deal that would have cut spending and reduced the country's debt. >> it is the president's responsibility to lay out a plan and to bring people together but it's a total dereliction of duty and a lack of courage to deal

have agreed to a 30 day extension allowing for more time to negotiate a new deal. a major sticking point will have to be cleared up by january 28. it involves royalty payments for members based on each container they unload. an early morning shootout at a new jersey police headquarters left three officers with wounds. >> how the suspect managed to get one of the officer's weapons. >> reporter: police raced to headquarters about 5:30 this morning responding to reports of gunfire. a man was brought into the station on domestic violence charges. >> the struggle occurred while the suspect was being processed. during the course of that, the suspect obtained a firearm and fired on three have our officers. right now we have one officer

that was shot just below his bulletproof breast. >> i saw them throw somebody into an ambulance. this was very, very quick. the police officers jumping in the ambulance and taking off very quick. >> reporter: the two other officers were grazed by bullets. >> the officers returned fire and the suspect is deceased. >> reporter: it's the latest surprise attack on first responders. on christmas eve, convicted felon william spengler lured volunteer firefighters into a deadly trap. once they arrived he started shooting, killing two and wounding two others. the two officers are listed in stable condition. reporting from new york. everyone wants to know what

you can see five sweeps continue to scan all clear. so we're looking good on this friday night. no question about that. can't complain. it's good looking weather for the moment. we saw basically just a cloudy scenario. annapolis mostly cloudy through the day. bel air you had a little bit of sunshine before the clouds begin to dominate the sky. as we take a look at disun dock,

it was mostly cloudy early on and the sun breaking out. new high thin cloud cover. that's courtesy of the approaching storm system. 38 at bwi. wind is calm. air is dry. it is the proverbial calm before the storm. temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. we're not at freezing yet. conditions will begin to get colder overnight. clouds thicken up overnight. the chance for winter weather kicks in about 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. winter advisory is up. you can seat area of highest concern. it's for northern baltimore county. areas south and east, including annapolis, city and eastern shore. there will be an inch or two of slushy snow. clouds continue to overspread

the area. this is the leading edge. has it come in timing wise around 6 a.m., around snow advisory -- sunrise, snow begins to fire up. in that time frame we'll have our coldest air of the day. warmer air will try to edge further north. it shifts toward annapolis and north of kent island through the day. then we'll look for rain and snow mixing over the i-95 corridor. kind of a last gasp of the storm. cold air wraps. we could see flurries. a detailed snowfall map in just a second. first, i want to show you the cold air. that will funnel in as we talk about the whole weekend for sunday, cold breezy day, a frigid night tomorrow night. it's going to be a very cold night. plan for that. future trend shows we struggle
